Day-by-Day Program

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport and meet your birding guide. Transfer to your hotel near Lake Victoria. Afternoon birding around the hotel gardens and lake edges for sunbirds, weavers, kingfishers, and other common waterbirds. Overnight in Entebbe.

Day 2: Entebbe – Mabamba Swamp

Morning transfer to Mabamba Swamp for a canoe trip in search of the legendary Shoebill. Explore papyrus channels to spot African Finfoot, Swamp Flycatcher, and Papyrus Gonolek. Return to Entebbe for overnight.

Day 3: Entebbe – Mabira Forest

Drive east to Mabira Forest. Spend the day birding the dense forest, focusing on forest interior species like turacos, greenbuls, and forest robins. Overnight near Mabira.

Day 4: Mabira – Lake Mburo National Park

Morning birding in forest edges before driving to Lake Mburo National Park. Afternoon birding in savannah and wetland habitats for species such as African finfoot, raptors, and waterbirds. Overnight in Lake Mburo.

Day 5: Lake Mburo National Park

Full day birding in Lake Mburo’s savannah, woodland, and wetland areas. Target species include African Wattled Lapwing, Grey Crowned Crane, and various kingfishers. Optional nature walks for closer wildlife encounters.

Day 6: Lake Mburo – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Drive southwest to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Birding en route along roadside habitats. Evening at leisure in preparation for gorilla trekking the following day.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Early morning start for Bwindi Gorilla Trekking. Trek through the forest in search of habituated mountain gorillas. Experience unforgettable close encounters while observing and photographing gorillas in their natural habitat. Afternoon birding for forest species near the park headquarters. Overnight near Bwindi.

Day 8: Bwindi – Ruhija / Nkuringo

Spend the day birding in the higher montane forests of Ruhija or Nkuringo. Focus on Albertine Rift endemics such as Rwenzori turaco, African green broadbill, and various sunbirds. Overnight near Bwindi.

Day 9: Bwindi – Queen Elizabeth National Park

Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Stop for birding along scenic highlands. Evening at leisure in preparation for Kazinga Channel birding.

Day 10: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Kazinga Channel

Morning boat trip along the Kazinga Channel. Spot waterbirds including pelicans, storks, herons, skimmers, and kingfishers. Afternoon birding in savannah and woodland areas for raptors, hornbills, and weavers. Overnight in the park.

Day 11: Queen Elizabeth – Kibale Forest

Drive north to Kibale Forest National Park. En-route birding in farmland and forest patches. Afternoon birding in forest edges for mixed flocks and woodland species. Overnight near Kibale.

Day 12: Kibale Forest National Park

Full day birding in Kibale Forest, famous for chimpanzees and its exceptional bird diversity. Observe forest specialists such as tiny warblers, turacos, hornbills, and greenbuls. Optional short chimpanzee tracking for those interested. Overnight in Kibale.

Day 13: Kibale – Semuliki / Rwenzori Region

Drive to the Albertine Rift region for montane and lowland forest birding. Focus on rare and endemic species like the Nahan’s Francolin, Blue-headed Sunbird, and lyre-tailed honeyguide. Overnight in Rwenzori or Semuliki area.

Day 14: Return to Entebbe & Departure

Drive back to Entebbe with birding stops along roadside habitats. Depending on flight schedule, enjoy a final bird walk around Lake Victoria or Entebbe Botanical Gardens before transfer to Entebbe International Airport.
